Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week!
Happy hump day everyone! These are the last few weeks of school and everything has been super busy. That doesn't mean I don't have time for fun... just less time to write! It can often be difficult to write for fun when you have to write so much for school. Such a bummer! Anyway, I have a few recaps of fun things I did last week and this past weekend. Hopefully you'll be inspired!
Wednesday, I met Steven at a bar to watch the Kings v. Sharks game after I attended a Guns, Delts & Abs workout at Rouge & Saint. The workout was intense! This one is always difficult for me because it involves running, but this week, it was extra hard! Maybe I was extra tired? After class we met at Giordano Bros in the Mission. I got this beauty of a sandwich. French fries on a sandwich? Yes, please!
On Thursday, I attended a meet up with some lovely ladies. The meet up was hosted at my friend Julia's house and it was a wine & cheese party. Every attendee brought a different kind of cheese. Man, what a spread! SO MUCH CHEESE. It was basically heaven.
After not doing much on Friday night, I was ready to party on Saturday! Well not so much party... more like brunch. Or in this case, a workout plus 6 hour brunch festival. Adrienne and I hit up a BodyRok Pilates class in the mission on Saturday at 11am. It was not my favorite class ever, but I was sore the next day. Must have worked on something? Ha! After, we headed over to El Techo (Lolinda's rooftop). We of course got the guacamole and then split a quesadilla. The food was great, but everyone knows you go here for the ambiance! It was a beautiful, clear day, so we got great views of the city. We also both tried the mimosa of the day - watermelon. It was good, but after, I switched to straight champagne. ;-)
After such a fun day on Saturday, it was early to bed for me! Sunday, I woke up early and attended a meeting on campus for school. After the meeting, I headed over to Golden Gate Park to meet Marissa at the De Young Museum. We went to see the Oscar de la Renta exhibit that is currently on display there. While I thought the tickets were a bit pricey, everything was absolutely beautiful and they had lot of pieces on display. I loved how they had both new and old designs too. It was so cool to see his progression and phases that he went through as a designer.
We were both starving after the tour, so we headed towards Hecho on market. We had more (or I had more) Mexican food (guacamole again!) We ended our evening with a few more drinks at Churchill. They have happy hour on Sunday afternoon from 2-6pm. Win!
Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week!
San Francisco was absolutely lovely this weekend! Here's a few highlights from the weekend since I did not document very well and had school.
Dinner at Scotland Yard (again, I know!). Steven and I had a Gilt deal. I was good, but I've never had such a salty kale salad in all my life!
Wine across the street at Reed & Greenough. They have happy hour until 7pm (and ALL DAY Sunday).
Night out with the gals at DNA/Bootie.
Kitten photo of the weekend. Every cat loves a good cardboard box.
Have a wonderful weekend, y'all!
I'm a bit delayed on the weekend update, but here goes nothing!
Friday night, Steven and I went the the Dodgers verses Giants game at AT&T park. I got him tickets for his birthday since he is a huge Dodgers fan. We headed over to happy hour at Local Tap before the game. Normally, the bar has a happy hour... looks like since there was a game, they decided that happy hour prices weren't needed! I believe the normal happy hour is Monday-Friday from 4pm-7pm and they have $5 appetizers,$5 wine, and other drink specials. Bummer! We still stayed since the bars around the ballpark were packed! We got a few rounds of drinks plus the cheese curds and the chicken wings. The cheese curds were good, but who doesn't love fried cheese dipped in marinara? The wings were ok, but they were also $10 for 5 wings. Crazy!! Afterwards, we headed to the game. Luckily, I bought tickets that were covered in club level because it was raining! The game was really fun, and I may have had a few more drinks while there! Oops! #noregrets
Saturday morning, I headed to a Burn class on market street with Adrienne. Burn is a Pilates, weights, and cardio class combined. They do rounds of weights (and spring board resistance) with cardio in between each round. The wall spring board is a fun way to break up normal dumbbell toning. The class is 55 minutes long, so the perfect amount of time for me. I had been burned out (HAHA) on this class late last year, so I had not been in awhile. This time, class was fun, challenging, and really made me sweat. If you know me, sweat is hard to come by! Afterwards, we headed over to Hayes Valley for some lunch or brunch as it turned out! We went to The Lunch Pad which is actually inside of Noir Lounge. The Lunch Pad is open everyday until 2:30pm and then after it closes the restaurant returns back to being Noir Lounge. Kind of confusing. What's more confusing is that The Lunch Pad does not serve alcohol, but it is inside of a full bar. Such a tease! We both got the jalapeno biscuit with bacon, egg, and cheese. It was delicious! I would definitely recommend having lunch here, but just don't expect a drink. ;-)
Sunday, I volunteered in the morning and then met my friend Karen for brunch. Our brunch turned into a drinking tour of the mission, but it was super fun! We had brunch at Buttermilk Southern Kitchen. I felt my breakfast was just ok, but Karen said her waffle was delicious! They also had a few different flavors of mimosa which was cool. I had pineapple and Karen had pomegranate. YUM!
Next we headed over to Myriad on mission. The bartender there was super friendly and made beautiful drinks! I had the Ruby Slipper (which is actually the tall peach colored drink) and Karen had the Bollywood Tea. Karen had her drink made with almond milk and while still a lovely color, the original drink with cream is a very light lilac. I've never seen a drink such a pretty light purple color before! I should have snapped a photo.
After Myriad, we headed over to El Techo rooftop bar. We each had a glass of rose and a spectacular view of the city.
Finally, we each had one more drink at Teeth SF (formerally Dr. Teeth). WOW, what a day. It really didn't seem like we'd been out for 6 hours... time flies when your chatting with friends. ;-)
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week thus far!
Happy Friday everyone! Today has been a beautiful week in the bay area. It was 80 degrees in SF on Wednesday! Crazy! I must have jinxed the weather with my comment about no rain because it is suppose to rain tonight and Saturday. Sadness. :-( I always say I don't mind if it rains... while I'm at work in the office. I snapped this photo of the Mission Dolores Church while walking home from a workout this week. The small building to the left is the oldest European building in San Francisco. I just read that Dolores is Spanish for sorrow/sorrowful. It makes me laugh because normally the opposite is happening at Dolores Park.
Tuesday was Steven's birthday, so we headed out to the lower haight after I got off work for some libations. We went to Toronado & Noc Noc for happy hour. Both of these bars have lots of beers on tap. Toronado is only beer, but Noc Noc has wine (and sake) too. I think both places the happy hour lasted until 6:30pm. Afterwards, we headed to Uva Enoteca for some delicious Italian food. We both started out with wine and a cheese plate. The cheese plate was 3 cheese for $15 and they were pretty large servings. I've seen skimpy cheese plates! Then for our main course, I got the pasta pomodoro and Steven had the boar bolognese lasagna. Both were SO good. The sauces were delicious and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Also, our waitress was delightful! I will definitely be back to Uva Enoteca.
This isn't THE cupcake I had on Tuesday, but it is a cupcake. I always say I'm not a dessert person until I eat a cupcake again. haha
I saw this on Instagram the other day, and I had to send it to basically every single girlfriend I have. Hilarious.
I got this update last Friday. I saw it again saved in my photos today and laughed again. Quite the breaking news, CNN... HAH
Everyone have a great weekend! I'm hoping the rain will hold off for tonight because we are going to an outdoor event. Fingers crossed!
Spring time has finally sprung in the bay area. The days are getting warmer & longer and finally no more constant rain. This weekend was a short one because of classes on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, I did get a wine delivery from Club W. I decided to cancel the service though because they don't let you skip a few months at a time. This wine delivery was definitely a surprise and I don't like surprise monetary deductions. I also had to lug it home from work which was not fun! It is fun to try new labels and varietals though, so maybe one day I'll subscribe again.
Saturday after class, I rushed home to watch the UNC basketball game. We won! And unfortunately we didn't win last night #sadtarheel. That night my friend, Marissa, and I went out in the Marina. I RARELY go out in the marina, but we decided to give it a try. Our first stop was Eastside West Bar. It was WAY too crowded, but at least there was no cover. We only hung out for a bit before we decided we needed more space and less people running into us. We headed over to HiFi which a smaller bar with a dance floor. We had so much fun there! It was very laid back, the bartenders were super friendly, and way less crowded. We also had an intense coaster throwing contest with the bartenders, so overall great fun! :-)
Sunday afternoon, I crawled out of bed (man, I'm old... can't handle being over-served!) and met Adrienne out at Off the Grid in the Presidio. It was a wonderful sunny day, but was quite chilly when the wind blew. I'm also not sure if it was because of opening day, but OMG it was packed! We found the shortest line possible and waited there for at least 30 minutes before ordering. We both got food from SugerFoot BBQ. It was good food but not what I was craving. We enjoyed the sun for awhile and split a bottle of wine. Hopefully if we go again the crowds won't be as insane!
The rest of Sunday was spent at home while catching up on Netflix. Yesterday, I actaully did something fun for it being a Monday. I met Steven and a few other friends at HiTops which is a sportsbar in the Castro to watch the Carolina game. Also, the Carolina loss. :-( What a let down! Oh well, still proud to be a Tarheel! One thing that made the night better were the wings. HiTops has amazing wing sauce! I loved it.
It's Steven's birthday tonight, so I'll be doing something fun again! Have an amazing week y'all!
Wow, this week has flown by! Maybe it's being super busy at work? Or having workouts or plans after work everyday so far? I love it when the work week flies by, but the feeling is NOT mutual for the weekend. Last night, Steven and I headed out for a fun night at the theater. We went to see Wicked at the Orphum Theater near Civic Center. Before the show, we headed to happy hour at Alta CA. They had one cocktail and three wines on their menu along with a few bites for happy hour. I went with a Pinot Grigio that turned out to be an orange wine (who knew that existed?) and Steven had the gin cocktail that was on the happy hour. We also split the deviled eggs. I thought they were delicious! The restaurant was airy and rustic and the bar in the middle was uniquely shaped like a giant triangle. All the food we saw looked delicious, but it was definitely SF priced. Another time! We actually had dinner at Lers Ros Thai in Hayes Valley because we were both craving Thai food. It was also delicious!
We headed to the show and got there and sat and it immediately started. I guess we were later than we imagined! Oops! The show was fantastic. I loved all the songs and the costumes. The dynamic between Glinda and Elphaba was hilarious and they were both so talented. It was so interesting to see the back story they told on how each character got to where they were before Dorothy showed up. I would definitely see it again! Overall, it was a wonderful night with great entertainment AND food. Win!
Hope everyone had nice weekend or in my case a nice LONG weekend. :-) Here's a quick recap on what I was up to this weekend.
I actually woke up bright and early and went to a workout class at BodyRok down in the mission. BodyRok is a machine based Pilates class that lasts 40 minutes. While that may not seem like a long workout... it is killer! I woke up very sore on Saturday. They had the music bumping, so it was a nice, fun way to wake up on my day off. When I got home I rewarded myself with a latte. YUM. I firmly believe that we should only have 4 day work weeks. Having Friday off was amazing!
Later that day, I went down to Palo Alto to see my friend Marissa and watch Carolina play at Old Pro. (I also watched the game on Sunday.) And yay, we are on our way to the final four! Unfortunately, we took NO photos. How unlike us. :-(
Saturday was a very lazy day during the day. Steven had his friend visiting, so I finally convinced them to head out to a beer garden with me. The weather was gorgeous! We walked over to Valley Tavern in Noe Valley. Noe has VERY few bars, but this one has a lovely outdoor patio. They also have trivia there on some week nights!
Saturday night we headed over to Brewcade along Market Street. I guess it's technically in Duboce Triangle. That area of Market is very confusing! Photos are blurry, but inside they have TONS of arcade games. They also have a projector which either plays a movie (the Exorcist last Saturday AHHH) or they have mario cart games set up. FYI- They only have wine and beer, but they have a large beer selection. They also have wine slushies called "Grape Drank". That sounds cute, but it tastes sickeningly sweet to me.
At about 10pm, Adrienne and I said goodbye to everyone and headed to Rickshaw Stop (AGAIN I KNOW) for a 90's party! I think you may be sensing a trend? The party wasn't too crowded which was good since Rickshaw only has 2 bathroom stalls for ladies. Who does this?! The first DJ was AWFUL. The second DJ made up for the first, but he only played for an hour, so it was kind of a bummer. There were some great 90's hits played during that hour though! I would most definitely see the second DJ again.
Sunday was a recovery day in our house. Everyone was a bit over-served on Saturday night. Whoops! I did manage to volunteer, so I feel somewhat accomplished.
Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday! Did you do anything exciting (or relaxing) over the weekend?
Hi all! Happy Friday! How has everyone's week been? I'm writing this post from the comfort of my couch since our office is closed for the day. Wohoo! My week has been a little on the crazy side. Work is super busy and I had a class on Friday. I also hosted a meetup on Tuesday at Marengo on the Alley in the FiDi. They have happy hour from 2:30-5pm, so we definitely missed that. I wonder who they get coming to happy hour at 2:30pm? hah We also did not try any food, but I will be back for the queso. My NC girl heart is aching for some queso!! Has anyone ever tried meetup? I really like it and I've met some of my closest friends through it! It can be a great icebreaker when you move to a new city. Everyone needs friends, right? Since I'm SO behind, I'm going to recap what I did last weekend today. :-)
Friday night after work, I went to a TRX at Wheelhouse to get a quick workout in before starting my weekend. Wheelhouse is a nice studio in the FiDi with nice amenities and great classes. After class, I headed over to the Workshop Cafe to work on my paper before meeting up with some friends for drinks. Workshop Cafe is a work space with hourly-rate WiFi, printers, outlets and plenty of seating. There are also snacks, coffee, beer, and wine.
After working for a bit, I met my friends at Southside Spirit House in SoMA for some drinks. Yay wine!
Saturday I got my hair done in the afternoon. I have yet to have a photo of me with it. Oh well. Maybe soon! After that, I met some Adrienne and her roommate Tiffany for a show! One of their friends does pole dancing and their fitness studio, Entangle & Sway, had a recital for all the women. It was so fun! Very inspiring how strong these ladies were. They also had this cute little wine and snack table set up outside. I would love to try some classes!
After the show (and learning some moves!) we headed over to SF Athletic Club for some dinner. We had nachos, onion rings, and cheese fries. Sooo healthy but soooo good!
I did absolutely NOTHING and it was amazing. I did manage to snap a shot of my Chinese food I ordered. Delicious.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Happy Friday everyone! Also, happy St. Paddy's recovery day! ;-)
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend planned. I am getting my hair done and I'm so excited! It has been needed for a loooonggg time.
Here are a few things that I have loved this past week.
My friend Britini and I do weekly walks/runs. Here is a photo of the giant bow & arrow sculpture along the embarcadero during our walk Tuesday night. I know daylight savings shifts are hard, but I'm loving how light it is at night now!
I got this recipe for Coconut Ginger Curry from Julie@PB Fingers and it was delicious! I have no idea how I stumbled across it since it's from 2013, but I'm glad I did! I substituted romanesco for regular broccoli because I had some from my Imperfect Produce order. I had never tried romanesco before, so it was great to try something new! Also, it is such a beautiful green! Who knew?!
This is photo that I took like a creeper at a group fitness class I've been attending lately. Ascend Body is a studio in the mission that does group circuit workouts. They also do personal training, but I have never participated in that. The classes are small and the trainers (I had Steven) are so nice and helpful. They are great at suggesting modifications! Also, every time I've been it's always a different workout, so never boring. A+ in my book!
I bought this pasta sauce on a whim from Safeway this week. It was so good! I also love the no sugar added and the small ingredients list. AND it's from Napa. Don't mind that sodium number... YIKES. Still delicious.
This is how my St. Patrick's Day ended... getting a fabulous mission burrito! How very Irish of me?
Have a fabulous weekend y'all!
Ohhh what a weekend! Boyfriend was back from his month long stay in the cold land of Minneapolis, so the weekend was spent mostly with him! I hardly took any photos too, so this will be a relatively quick post.
Friday night I had class and then went straight home. I watched one episode of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and went to bed. WOW. Class until 10pm is a killer of fun.
Saturday, Steven and I went to Subs Inc. in Noe Valley for lunch before my class. I had been craving a sandwich from there for over a week. They have the best dutch crunch bread and homemade hot sauce. Once I got home from class (late! boo!), I quickly showered and got ready to go over to my friend Brittini's game night/house warming party. She now lives in an adorable apartment in Russian Hill with her hubby and two cats. I'm super jealous of her dishwasher! We played Cards Against Humanity and Taboo. Brittini was an amazing hostess and provided delicious cookies and other snacks too. Such a fun night! I was very bad at taking photos that night because we were having such a good time, but I did manage to get one with the hostess. Obviously no glasses of wine had been consumed at this point. ;-) Sorry for the weird quality... it was saved from a snapchat!
We left her game night around 11pm and went to Steven's college friend Katey's (my now friend!) birthday party at Rickshaw Stop. I unfortunately did not take any photos there at all. The party was very fun with lots of dancing and great music!
Sunday was spent mostly indoors watching House of Cards (finally!) and ordering in Thai food (yum!). I did go volunteer with Homeless Cat Network (HNC) which is a regular thing for me. It's an organization that responsibly maintains feral cat colonies through medical care, Trap-Neuter-Return programs, socialization, rescue/adoption programs, and feeding around the bay area. Here's photo of one of the un-shy kitties that is at one of the sites. #crazycatlady
Hope everyone has a great start of their week! Happy Monday!
Hi! I'm Amanda and I've been living in SF for the past 4 years. Originally from North Carolina, I love traveling, planning, exploring new places in SF, group exercise, and wine.
