Friday night, a good friend and I went to see Beach Blanket Babylon at Club Fugazi in North Beach. Beach Blanket Babylon is a San Francisco staple, and I can't believe I have not seen it in the almost 4 years I've lived here! Luckily for me, my gal pal Adrienne bought me a ticket for my birthday gift. What is Beach Blanket Babylon you ask? Good question! It is a musical pop-culture revue. The show changes all the time, so you most likely will never see the exact same show twice. The show has been in production for years with over 15,000 performances, and claims to be the longest running music revue and variety show in history.
On to my show experience. The show was wonderful! There were so many talented singers preforming, and the story-line was hilarious. The show follows Snow White around the world in her search for the perfect man and true love. On her way, she runs into famous singers, politicians, actors, and internet celebrities. I won't tell you all the people she sees, but I will say the politician skits were definitely my favorite. Also, the hats and wigs were beyond amazing! Sorry for lack of photos, but you can't take photos before or during the show.
Tickets can be purchased through their webpage. They have shows Wednesday-Sunday, but Sunday is the only time you can bring people under 21. There is a bar with drinks and snacks at the venue but it is cash only. The ticket prices range from $25-155 depending on day and seating choice. Shhh... we got our tickets for a deal on Goldstar.
North Beach is the "little Italy" of San Francisco, so there are TONS of awesome restaurants around Club Fugazi for some pre(or post!) show bites and drinks. Places I've been to that I would recommend AND that are within walking distance to the venue are Tony’s Pizza Napoletana which is delicious, but be prepared to wait! Mona Lisa for some home-style Italian comfort food and you can make reservations! Also, Baonecci Ristorante for a cozier more intimate feel. For a fancy bar, be sure to try The Devil's Acre for a custom made post-show cocktail. We ended our night at 15 Romolo for one last glass of wine before calling it a night.
