Happy Friday from a yet again rainy San Francisco! I hope everyone had a great week. This week was more on the chill side for me since I only had one event planned. WHO AM I? I've been trying to get back into the work out game AND the spend less money game. #sadbankaccount Anyway, I am diverting away from the normal web wide sensation of Things I'm Loving Friday to bring you a fascinating tale that I like to call Things I did on Thursday Night.
AsiaSF is a Asian fusion restaurant that also includes a lip-syncing & dance performance done by their lovely transgender performers. My partner in crime, Adrienne, and I met outside of AsiaSF in SoMa at 6:30pm. Unfortunately, you can not go in to the restaurant before 7pm. Good to know! After, a quick yelp search, we headed over to Odd Job for some pre-show drinks. I have been to very few bars in SoMa, but I thought this one was really cool! They do fancy cocktails, but we are wine gals through and through. Also, the outside is very uniquely painted. I loved it! Sorry for the dim pictures... it's very dark in the bar. How hip! ;-)
We walked back over to AsiaSF and were seated promptly at 7:15pm. The menu is prix fixe, so you order all 3 courses at once. You have to order dinner every night there is a show, except Wednesday and then it is a $25 minimum per person. The price of the menu varies between which night and time you go. There are shows Wednesday-Sunday with multiple performances on Friday and Saturday. Be sure to make a reservation because I do not think they take walk-ins! This can be done easily through opentable. Also, we had bought a travelzoo deal. We are so thrifty!
The drinks are not included in the price. Each girl does have her own cocktail named after them. We both thought this was neat! We still ordered wine. HA. My meal consisted of chicken satay, filet mignon with eggplant and potato stars (cute!), and the a black rice pudding dessert. Adrienne also got the steak but had the potato samosa and the banana beignets split. Overall, we both liked out appetizers and main course. The dessert on the other hand, was not good. There are many other options than what we got and you can also get a dessert cocktail, so maybe something else is better? The table next to us had a chocolate cake thing that looked good!
The show started around 8pm and after 3 performers they took an intermission before the next round. The ladies did a wonderful job! Throughout the performance they strutted along the catwalk and lip-synced to some great music. I can't not imagine walking in some of those heels on that tiny runway! The ladies were beautiful and the costumes were beautiful too. I especially liked the light up high-low blue prom dress. :) There were songs from Wicked, Rihanna, JLo, and even Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. I could not help but sing along! I think we both agreed that the dance done to Rihanna's S&M was our favorite. She was a wonderful dancer and had great choreography. The only issue I had with the entire performance was the ladies definitely preformed to one side of the room. We felt like we were behind the stage! They did not mind the audience taking photos, but so many of mine were of their backs. Yikes! I would suggest asking for a table that faces the bar.
I can whole-heartily say that this is a performance you should see at least once in your life. It is unique, fun, and so entertaining!
Happy weekend y'all! Hope everyone has fun plans. :-D
